Pavilion Damai is not a house in the conventional sense. It is a world. Spread across 3,500 square meters of landscaped grounds, six separate pavilions house the various functions of daily life — sleeping, bathing, dining, gathering — each connected by covered walkways and set within a garden designed by a leading landscape architect.
The architecture draws on the spatial logic of the traditional Balinese compound — a series of sacred and profane spaces arranged in careful hierarchy. But the material language is entirely contemporary: board-formed concrete, weathered steel, and hand-raked gravel gardens that echo the Japanese influence of the owner's travels.
